Here we are....

Well, it's official. We are here in China with no plans to go "home" anytime soon. Today is acually the second full day with Suonllen being at work and us being here. Yesterday did not countas far as I was concerned. We were getting over the food poisoning we got by eating the Ted's Hawaii upside down cake in Hawaii before our trip home. My Gosh was that plane ride rough. I was the first to get sick and for the last three and half hours of the flight out of Oahu going towards Korea, I spent it running back and forth to the bathroom to vomit. Now, if you have been around me when I am sick, I sound just like my dad, like I am going to die or am in the process of throwing up my stomach right then and there! About two hours before we landed, Asia then got sick towards the end of the flight. She was as miserable as me. We had a four hour lay over in Seoul and we both slept and took turns running to the bathroom. Suonllen and Javi had to carry our carry ons and were troopers NOT getting sick when we did. So yesterday, we layed low and did not do a thing until Suonllen got home from work. Asia still did not feel up to going out so we decided to go the mall to get movies and then pick up some food to bring home.

In China, movies are a necessity and a must. Movies are the best here. For less than 12RMB(which is a little less than $2), you can see what's in the theaters back in the States. Now the quality may not be that great and if you are lucky the first copy you buy will be in english. Every once in awhile you get a non english copy but for less than $2 who cares, buy another one or take it back and they will exchange it for another copy! Eventually you get a copy you can watch it in english. We picked up 15 flicks and were on our way to find food. Javi decided he wanted Dairy Queen and to my surprise, Suonllen was ok with letting him have dessert first and then he could eat a sandwich when we got home. Ok...we picked up some bread and then headed back towards home, plan was to stop around the corner and get some dumplings for the rest of us. Malls here have everything from bread to movies, kinda cool. We then stopped at the restaurant around the corner from our building. It was interesting, Suonllen has eaten there before but never odered dumplings so he had a little difficulty but he did an ok job in the end. At least I think so, it tasted like Pork. haha

While we were waiting we saw a stray cat. I instantly reminded Javi not to call it or go near it because we did not know if it was tame or not or if it was safe to even think about petting it. It made me sad, thinking about our animals we had to leave with foster families. I know they are all being cared and loved but I was sad to think we would not have a furry pet for quite some time. Although I plan to have the koi pond stocked soon, it's just not the same.

So today, I have been sitting around debating where to go if I go anywhere at all. I think China is definitely going to be difficult to navigate without knowing the language and I could see how it would be easy to just isolate oneself instead of trying to get out there. I called another Intel wife today to see what she was up to and she had plans so she was not free until 1:30. I planned on getting some excercise in and then maybe venture out to the store by myself and meet up with her later. However the lure of the internet and trying to keep up with friends at home has made it almost noon here and I still have not left the house BUT at least I did Zumba. I am looking forward to teaching so I HAVE to leave the house. The plan for this weekend is to check out the gym and talk to someone about allowing me to teach and then go to the beer festival. Yep, you read that right! Supposedly it's one of the best things to do each year. So be ready for an exciting blog soon with a full weekend to report on... I have a feeling we nor China are going to be the same when we are done living here.

Hi Michelle,
Love your adventures. Have you considered taking an immersion class at a local language school? Cookng classes would be cool too. :)
